Applied Verbal Behavior (AVB)

AVB is based on the original work of B.F. Skinner and more recently the work of Mark Sundberg, James Partington, Vincent Carbone, and others who have successfully applied Skinner’s principles to teaching individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. Verbal behavior focuses on the function of language and utilizes the learners own motivation to make learning fun and to decrease maladaptive behaviors. Services are available in a clinic setting and the development of a home program is encouraged when appropriate. The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS) is used to identify the learner’s communication and learning needs and to develop goals and objectives for treatment. On-going assessment, staff and parent training, and program monitoring is provided by our experienced staff.
